About SightReader
Short description
SightReader is a sight-reading app for piano. Learners play along on a digital keyboard, the on-screen piano or an acoustic piano through the microphone, and every note is marked as they play it. Over 3,700 pieces and exercises take them from their first notes to Grade 8, in the browser and on iOS and Android.
Long description
SightReader helps pianists get better at playing music they have never seen before. Learners connect a digital keyboard, play on screen, or let an acoustic piano be heard through the microphone, and SightReader marks every note as it is played, with an optional metronome for rhythm. The library holds over 3,700 public-domain pieces and newly written exercises, levelled from beginner to Grade 8, alongside step-by-step lessons, scale and note drills, and a fresh practice session every day. Teachers can set work for a class and follow each pupil’s progress. SightReader is free to start, with a Pro subscription for the full library, and is available in English, Spanish, French and Italian. It is built independently in London by Bret Cameron.

Founder
Bret Cameron is a London-based software engineer who came back to the piano as an adult. He built SightReader after failing to find a tool that took sight reading seriously: one with a steady supply of unseen music at the right level, marked note by note.

Exam boards
SightReader levels its music to the published requirements of the ABRSM piano grades, but it isn’t affiliated with, licensed by or endorsed by ABRSM. Please don’t describe it as an official or approved exam resource. Our copyright page explains where the music comes from.
